Andy Burnham has informed allies of his intention to allocate more funds to defence than Sir Keir Starmer. Discussions have also been held with John Healey, the former defence secretary, who reportedly believes Burnham’s proposed increase will adequately counter Russian threats.
Burnham is making all the right noises in his quest to become Labour leader and Prime Minister. Defence has been a worry for many in Britain who saw us falling too far behind in defence spending to resist the threat from Russia and China. It will give president Trump some reassurance as well. He is not fighting for the Western World alone.
