British pension funds are set to invest £1 billion into start-ups to aid Andy Burnham’s plans to “reindustrialise” the UK. A consortium of large retirement funds announced the creation of the UK Scale-up Fund to support early-stage science and technology firms. Backed by the British Business Bank and the Government’s Office for Investment, the fund aims to foster growth in UK tech companies.
