More shoppers are paying with digital wallets but use of cash also rises. Consumers’ use of mobile contactless payment surged in 2023, with 42% of adults registered for services like Apple Pay and Google Pay, up from 30% in 2022. UK Finance and Accenture’s Payment Markets report also noted a rise in cash usage, with 2.6% of people mainly using cash, up from 1.7% in 2022. The total number of payments in the UK increased by 5% to 48.1 billion.
