The prime minister is considering issuing digital ID cards to all British citizens to address illegal immigration. A spokesman for the Prime Minister suggested that ID cards could help prevent illegal migrants from working in the black economy. The proposal comes in response to concerns over Channel migrants, asylum hotels, and benefit fraud. The previous Labour government attempted a similar initiative in 2009, later scrapped by the Tories.
