Rwanda-style schemes to send failed asylum seekers to offshore deportation camps are to be made legal by the EU. It comes just months after Labour scrapped its former plan to send Channel migrants to Africa. The new legal framework will allow EU countries to make arrangements within non-EU countries to host migrants who are slated for deportation. The legislation marks a paradigm shift on migration on Brussels which in 2018 ruled out partnerships with non-EU countries to process asylum seekers over ethical and legal concerns.
